Kara Volle is a self-taught photographer and painter based in Chicago, originally from St. Louis, Missouri. She got her start at a young age experimenting with different mediums and fell in love with using paint and her camera.
Being mindful of her environmental impact, Kara began experimenting with digital painting in 2024 as a way to conserve supplies and resources while exploring new subject matter and techniques. She is interested in the relationships between humans and other species, as well as our human impact on the planet. Kara strives to bring her audience in with playful colors and emotive subjects.
She draws inspiration from many sources, namely from her walks around her neighborhood in Chicago and travels to different cities and countries. With an observant eye, she enjoys noticing the smallest of details. For her digital artwork, she begins by sketching on her Wacom tablet before digitally painting the different layers as she would on canvas. Kara does not use any AI in her work and her pieces are completely drawn and painted by hand digitally. For her photography, she finds that bringing her camera with her on outings and trips allows her to capture opportunistic images when she encounters something of beauty or interest.
