My name is Anna Murphy, and I am Chicago-based artist. I have over a decade of experience working with many different communities and exhibiting my work in public spaces across Chicago and beyond. Working and exhibiting with such entities as The Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago Park District, The Chicago Field Museum, Soho House Chicago, The Chicago Chinatown Community, The Chickasaw Nation, IndyArts and Pacers sports entertainment, FrankArts, and many more. I cherish my community-led projects and in collaboration with the Chicago Field Museum I was recently a co-author of a how to guide book to inspire placemaking and public art in urban natural areas.
I merge the worlds of Fine Art and Street Art by bringing an emphasis on intricate detail from my traditional painting background into my public murals and installations. Hand painted with brushes, my painting style emulates a process similar to watercolor, building up thin layers and washes to create depth, texture, and a life-like quality. The central themes of my work include celebrating nature’s wondrous beauty and the Divine connection we share with Mother Earth, and the animal kingdom.
I am a DCASE (City Of Chicago’s Public Art Prequalified List) approved artist, and was named by Artist Replete as one of Chicago’s top 10 artists to look out for in 2020. My work has been featured several times in the Chicago Sun Times, Frank Magazine, The front page of The State Journal, Color and Curiosity, and one of my collaborative murals featured in the West Loop of Chicago includes acknowledgments from Oprah Winfrey.
