Mack Finklea

Within my visual art I am really interested in exploring the spectrum of hue and light within a single color. I typically utilize plaster, acrylic, and glossy varnish to create primarily monochromatic pieces. I am inspired by pointillism and tend to utilize those techniques to create complexity in shade which is emphasized by the texture of my plaster work below the paint.

As a theatre artist, I am most inspired when working on big, spectacle musicals or in small, devising or conceptual pieces. At first glance these may seem disconnected but what I am so attracted to within these types of theatre is my love for hyper-stylization and creating the “impossible”. I often utilize several other mediums within my work (sculpture, movement, video, etc) to help create these outlandish realities. I firmly believe that life is absurd and theatre should be too.
